Affirmations are positive statements that help you to challenge self-limiting beliefs and negative thoughts. You can feel their power when you intentionally add them to your daily routine.

If you think they’re are too new-agey or unrealistic, consider this: affirmations are exercises for your mindset.

Benefits of Affirmations

  • Raise your confidence before presentations or important meetings.
  • Control negative feelings such as frustration, anger, impatience and limiting beliefs.
  • Improve your self-esteem.
  • Combat imposter syndrome.
  • Alleviate midlife malaise.
  • Finish projects you’ve started.
  • Improve your productivity.
  • Overcome bad habits.

Positivity has a place in the corporate setting! Affirming your best qualities before a big meeting, interview or performance review can increase your confidence, calm your nerves and improve your chances of success.

For any practice to work, it has to be done regularly. Recite each statement several times a day, especially when you’re engaged in a negative thought or behavior that you want to overcome.

How to use affirmations at work

  • Start Your Day with a Positive Intention: Begin your morning with a positive statement like “I am focused and capable of achieving my goals today.”
  • Create Post-Its: Write on sticky notes and place them on your desk, computer monitor, or inside your notebook for constant reminders.

  • Use Them in Your Email Signature: Add a subtle, positive quote or statement in your email signature to inspire yourself and others.
  • Incorporate Affirmations During Breaks: Take a few moments during your lunch break to repeat affirmations like “I am doing my best, and that is enough.”
  • Turn Them Into Screen Savers: Set a positive affirmation as your desktop or phone wallpaper to stay motivated.
  • Pair with Deep Breathing: Take a minute to breathe deeply and repeat “I am calm, collected, and in control.” during stressful moments.

  • Affirm Before Big Tasks: Before presentations or meetings, recite affirmations such as “I communicate clearly and confidently.”
  • Share with Your Team: Encourage positivity in the workplace by sharing affirmations during team meetings.
  • Write in Your Planner: Start each week or day by jotting down affirmations like “I am progressing toward my professional goals.” in your planner or calendar.
  • Celebrate Success: positively reinforce your accomplishments by saying, “I am proud of my achievements and deserve my success.”
