Affirmations are positive statements that help you to challenge self-limiting beliefs and negative thoughts. Being intentional with incorporating affirmations as part of your routine, start to feel their power and begin to make positive changes.
If you think affirmations are too new-agey or unrealistic, I encourage you to shift your thinking to this reframe: many of us do repetitive exercises to improve our physical well-being, and affirmations are no different. They are exercises for our mindset. The more we practice, the more affirmations help reprogram our thinking patterns.
Reasons to use affirmations
- Raise your confidence before presentations or important meetings.
- Control negative feelings such as frustration, anger, impatience and limiting beliefs.
- Improve your self-esteem.
- Combat imposter syndrome.
- Alleviate midlife malaise.
- Finish projects you’ve started.
- Improve your productivity.
- Overcome bad habits.
How can affirmations help you at work?
Affirming your best qualities before a big meeting, interview or performance review can increase your confidence, calm your nerves and improve your chances of success.
For any practice to work, it has to be done regularly. Recite your affirmations several times a day (pro tip – set them as regular phone notifications!), especially when you’re engaged in a negative thought or behavior that you want to overcome.
